Congress Announced First List of 45 Candidates for Maharashtra Assembly Election 2024; Renominates 25 Sitting MLAs, Including Aslam Shaikh from Malad West
The Congress Party has released its first list of candidates for the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly Election 2024, nominating 45 candidates, including 25 sitting MLAs.
Among the key names is Aslam Ramzan Ali Shaikh, who has been renominated from the Malad West constituency.
Other prominent figures fielded include Mohammad Aarif Naseem Khan from Chandivali, Ranjit Kamble from Deoli, and Vikas Thakre from Nagpur West. Additionally, former MLAs Gopaldas Agarwal and Sunil Deshmukh, who had briefly switched to the BJP before returning to the Congress, have been given tickets for Gondia and Amravati, respectively.
Notably, Jyoti Gaikwad, sister of Mumbai Congress chief Varsha Gaikwad, has also made the list. Varsha Gaikwad, a former Dharavi MLA, currently represents Mumbai North Central in the Lok Sabha following her win in the 2024 general elections. Amit and Dheeraj Deshmukh, sons of the late Vilasrao Deshmukh, also feature on the list.
This announcement follows the decision by the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance, comprising Congress, NCP (Sharad Pawar faction), and Shiv Sena (UBT), to contest 85 seats each in the upcoming November 20 elections.
